Our Cupertino Residence design seeks to integrate an active live style for the family while preserving the health and well being of two oak trees that are over 100 years old. Creating distinct zones of interaction allows for large areas around the critical tree roots to remain protected. Established pathways wind around the old trees to further protect root zones and allow for further exploration of the backyard. Carefully picked plants may coexist with the trees and decrease the client's need to maintain the oak leaf litter, an important aspect of oak habitat. Distinct zones to gather, play, and explore aid the clients family in enjoying their outdoors.
